Application scheme of rock wool insulation material in building exterior wall insulation system

Application scheme of rock wool insulation material in building exterior wall insulation system

1、 System Overview

Rock board insulation and decoration integrated board is a new type of external wall insulation system material that prefabricated the decorative surface layer (ceramic rock board) and insulation core material in the factory. This system integrates thermal insulation, decoration and beautification, fire prevention and waterproofing, and is connected to the base wall through a composite method of "pasting+anchoring" to achieve the integration of thermal insulation and decoration functions.

In recent years, with the improvement of building energy-saving standards and stricter fire prevention requirements, integrated insulation and decoration panels have been increasingly widely used in energy-saving renovations of new and existing buildings due to their advantages such as A-level fire protection and prefabricated construction. Starting from June 2025, new building exterior wall insulation systems nationwide must use Class A fire-resistant materials, and integrated panels have become the preferred system solution for compliance.

2、 Basic System Architecture

The rock board insulation and decoration integrated board external wall insulation system mainly consists of the following levels:

Construct hierarchical materials to form core functions

Main building structures such as concrete and masonry walls at the grassroots level

Special polymer bonding mortar for bonding layer fixes the board to the base layer

Insulation core material rock wool board (Class A fireproof) insulation core layer

Decorative layer ceramic rock panel (5.8-12mm), weather resistant, and stain resistant

Anchor parts made of stainless steel/nylon anchor bolts are mechanically fixed with double safety

Sealing material: Silicone weather resistant sealant, waterproof, breathable, and stretchable compensation

Core Composition Description:

-Rock panel decorative layer: As an external decorative layer, the rock panel has a low water absorption rate (≤ 0.5%), excellent anti fouling performance, and long-lasting freshness. The thickness of the rock slab is usually 5.8mm-12mm, and the surface density is controlled at ≤ 20kg/m ² to meet the installation requirements of high-rise buildings

-Insulation core material: A-grade fireproof rock wool board is used, with a thermal conductivity of ≤ 0.040 W/(m · k), a water repellency rate of ≥ 98%, and a thickness determined according to regional energy-saving standards (usually 50-100mm)

-Anchor system: Single point anchor force ≥ 0.6kN, no less than 6-8 anchor components per square meter, and full-length brackets are installed on each floor of high-rise buildings

3、 Scope of application

The rock board insulation and decoration integrated board external wall insulation system is suitable for the following scenarios:

1. New construction

-High rise residential buildings, commercial housing, and affordable housing

-Public buildings: office buildings, hotels, schools, hospitals, shopping malls

-Meet the green building evaluation standards and 75% energy-saving requirements

2. Energy saving renovation of existing buildings

-Energy saving renovation of exterior walls in old residential areas

-No need to remove the original decorative surface, direct pasting construction, greatly reducing the construction period

3. Applicable height restrictions

According to local standards, when the density of rock board insulation decoration surface is ≤ 20kg/m ², the applicable building height should not exceed 60m

-Prohibit working on rainy or foggy days

Sample first: A sample wall should be made before construction, and large-scale construction can only be carried out after confirmation by the designer, party A, and supervisor

5.3 Measurement and laying out

-Use a theodolite or plumb line to mark the exterior and starting lines of the building on the wall

-Pop up the horizontal and vertical grid lines for each board according to the layout diagram

5. Professional subcontracting: The insulation and decoration board project should be constructed by professional units with corresponding qualifications, and it is not allowed to designate or indirectly designate production plants or suppliers

9、 Regional adaptability explanation

Technical key points of regional types

In extremely cold regions (northeast and northwest), increase the thickness of the insulation layer (preferably ≥ 100mm), use high hydrophobic rock wool to prevent condensation, and strengthen the anchoring density

The insulation thickness in cold regions (North China) is 80-100mm, meeting the 75% energy-saving standard

In hot summer and cold winter regions (East and Central China), the insulation thickness is 50-70mm, with a focus on moisture resistance and anti condensation

High rise buildings must adopt a dual safety structure of mechanical anchoring and bonding, with full-length brackets added to each floor to ensure wind pressure safety
